Election Day is Tuesday, November 3, 2026, with polls open statewide from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. If you plan to vote in Western New York this year, a few dates between now and then are worth putting on the calendar.
First, registration. The deadline to register to vote in New York for this election is Saturday, October 24 for online, in-person, and received-by-mail applications (mailed applications postmarked by October 29). Check your registration status at voterlookup.elections.ny.gov and register at elections.ny.gov.
Second, early voting. New York’s early voting period runs Saturday, October 24 through Sunday, November 1. Voters outside New York City may vote at any early voting site in their county — check your county board of elections for locations and hours.
Third, two local events ahead of the deadline. On Tuesday, October 20, from 5 to 8 p.m., the League of Women Voters Buffalo Niagara hosts “Voting is Your Superpower!” at the Buffalo History Museum, 1 Museum Ct, Buffalo — doors at 5 p.m., with a talk by Melissa Parker Leonard (“The Power of a Voice”) at 6 p.m. The event is free, with RSVP requested through the League of Women Voters Buffalo Niagara.
And on Saturday, October 17, a series of “No Kings Day of Action” pep rallies will take place across Western New York, focused on checking registration and making a voting plan: Lockport, 11 a.m.–1 p.m.; Hamburg, 11 a.m.–1 p.m.; Williamsville, 1–3 p.m.; East Aurora, 1:30–3 p.m.; Buffalo, 3–5 p.m.
Bottom line: check your registration, make a plan, and if you want to skip the lines, vote early starting October 24.
