The Buffalo Sabres stormed back from a two-goal deficit to beat the Minnesota Wild 3-2 in overtime on Tuesday night at KeyBank Center, with Owen Power ripping a wrist shot past Jesper Wallstedt with just 38 seconds left in OT. Jiri Kulich fed Power for the winner in front of an announced crowd of 19,070.
Buffalo went scoreless for 40 minutes, and the Wild struck twice late in the second: Danila Yurov converted a power play at 13:53 (assists to Blake Coleman and Jared Spurgeon), and Maxim Shabanov made it 2-0 at 15:38 off feeds from Michael McCarron and Quinn Hughes. Minnesota took a 1-for-4 night on the man advantage; Buffalo went 0-for-2.
The comeback started early in the third. Noah Ostlund cut the lead to 2-1 at 3:55 — his first goal of the season — set up by Power and Rasmus Dahlin. Then Tage Thompson buried his second of the year at 9:38 off a Peyton Krebs feed to tie it, and Buffalo carried the play from there, outshooting Minnesota 11-5 in the period.
Overtime belonged to the stars but finished with the goalies trading blows: Wallstedt twice robbed Thompson and stopped Zach Benson, while Colten Ellis — starting in place of Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen — denied Matt Boldy and Yurov after Boldy blocked Jack Quinn’s bid. Ellis finished with 18 saves on 20 shots for the win; Wallstedt stopped 25 of 28 in the overtime loss. Power logged 28:21 and Dahlin 29:15, and Buffalo owned the faceoff circle at 51.9%.
The three stars told the story: Power (1 goal, 1 assist), Thompson (1 goal), Ostlund (1 goal). The win moves Buffalo to 2-1-0 and hands the previously unbeaten Wild their first blemish — an early-season statement that this Sabres team can find a way when the night starts going sideways.
